Good price and a great fit for a group of 8-12 people. A few more blow dryers would make it nicer.

Pretty good.

The internet was a real problem. Mobile reception inside was almost nonexistent, though it worked normally outside, and the Wi-Fi was surprisingly slow at about 2.75 Mbps download. I was the only one connected, so it wasn’t a case of everyone sharing the bandwidth, yet Spotify and YouTube kept buffering badly. With weak mobile reception in the area, the guesthouse really needed reliable Wi-Fi. The connection was disappointing and not enough for basic video or music use. Cleanliness was also below standard. At check-in, only one or two of the provided cups were even barely clean. The rest had clear tea or coffee stains and bits of residue on the sides and bottoms, as shown in the attached photos. Having to wash the tableware before using it feels like a serious housekeeping oversight, especially for a guesthouse rented as an entire premises. If hygiene or basic internet access matters to you, think carefully before booking.

We paid NT$30,000 for two nights to book the entire Wanke Inn - No. 8 for a group of 10-12. I was rushing and didn’t research it first, which was my mistake. I do support domestic tourism and the cultural industry, but this stay was enough for me. Travelers heading to Yilan should choose their guesthouse carefully. The building is said to be a renovated old house, but it’s actually 50 years old, with work done 10 years ago. The walls had serious mold, leaks and only a thin patch of waterproof paint. It felt like a makeshift ancestral home for shelter, and the mold and mildew were unacceptable at this price. When it rained hard outside, it was also drizzling indoors, the air was very damp, and no leak had been mentioned beforehand. The chairs, floors and stained sofa fabric were extremely dirty, and water kept dripping from the sofa. The toilet entrance was badly flooded. After using it, the soaked mats left our feet completely wet. This had apparently happened before. I could only ask an older gentleman to come look, and he said he’d fix it again. The electrical wires were wrapped in insulation cloth. Is this really a place charging 30,000 yuan for two nights? It didn’t feel like they considered the guests at all. I’d asked in advance about pots and pans and was told they were available, so I didn’t bring any. I only discovered there was no soup ladle after we’d started cooking hot pot. The administrator was slow to reply, so I called the manager. He first asked whether I’d transferred the payment, then said they’d provide a ladle. They were impatient and kept asking what else was missing, telling me to list everything at once. They said they had hired Vietnamese people to clean, which was why they hadn’t mentioned the missing item. I wasn’t there to cause trouble, and I’d asked ahead of time. Luckily I often go camping and had brought my own utensils. The old mahjong machine kept jamming, the parking setup wasn’t marked clearly and felt like a blind box, and the internet was consistently unreliable. I made do by bringing my own speakers to play music. The one redeeming point was the strong water pressure at the toilet faucets. One stay was enough. Choose carefully.

We were a group of friends staying at Zhuangwei Hotel, in the sixth building. There weren’t neighbors nearby, so we didn’t need to worry about bothering anyone, and pets were welcome. The surroundings were okay. Soundproofing was the drawback, since it wasn’t very good.
