Jia Yuan Bed and Breakfast

We felt right at home throughout our stay, and the grandmother who runs the B&B was lovely and very talkative. Breakfast came with the stay and was so generous that everyone was full. The place is only 150 meters from the Yilan Children's Festival. If you arrive early, you can contact the owner to leave your car and luggage at the B&B.

If you're going to the Children's Festival, this guesthouse is within walking distance. It used to be a family home, so it doesn't have the luxury or style of some farmhouse guesthouses, but the owner has thoughtfully made each of its five rooms a family room, and each has its own character. She's very friendly, cooks breakfast herself, and even made us chicken soup in the evening.

This was the worst guesthouse I've ever stayed in. I'd booked two rooms, but when I arrived, I was told one had to be moved somewhere else. I was stunned. The room had ants and smelled terrible. If this review didn't require one star, I wouldn't give it even that.

We could walk straight over to Dongshan River Park, and getting back after the Children's Festival performances was manageable even for kids who hate walking. The location was excellent. The landlady was welcoming and spent the evening having a drink and chatting with everyone, which made us feel at home. We heard about the years she's run the guesthouse, its clean surroundings, and the restoration history of the Dongshan River. She also told us about "typhoon grass," whose creases people use to predict typhoons. It was a warm and educational conversation. Breakfast was delicious, especially the freshly made pumpkin soy milk, which made me want to buy the same soy milk maker, and the braised duck. Her cooking is superb. She also gives souvenir recommendations and discounts. Thanks for the hospitality. I'll definitely come back for another drink with the landlady!
