Grand Boss Hotel

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the foyer is lovely and well presented. The hotel is very conveniently located, a short walk from the train station and Jimmy Park, with a night market across the road. Our room was big and spacious. It’s a grand old hotel, though the rooms feel dated. There were old stains on the floor in both our room and the corridor. Water leaked as we entered the bathroom, so we used a spare towel to mop it up or left it to collect the water. Some renovations could help bring the place back to its former glory.

Careful, there are bedbugs. I saw a review from 8 years ago mentioning them, but thought the issue had probably been taken care of. After one night I had the typical bites, even though everything looked clean. I emailed them twice about it and got no reply. Very disappointing!

The staff were pleasant, and the location is ideal, close to the station and night market. I did get a good night’s sleep, and I’d stay again if I had to for the location, though I’d look elsewhere first. For what’s offered, the hotel isn’t particularly cheap. The rooms are dated, the bathroom had quite bad mould, and the fixtures and fittings are poorly maintained. The maintenance that has been done looks shoddy at best. This place must have been superb in its day, but unfortunately it isn’t now. It needs investment and didn’t feel like value for money. I struggle to see how anyone can honestly give it a 5 star rating. It simply isn’t at that standard.

The outside of the hotel looks nice, and it’s convenient for the night market and railway. There’s also a free bike to ride around. But there was mould in the bathroom, and the shower kept clogging even after I removed the drain cover. When I called for service, I was told that was normal. I’ve stayed at many other hotels and never had this issue. For the price, I don’t think it’s worth it. Inside, it feels like a 2 star hotel.
