Ruiju Boutique Hotel Dayan

The room floor didn't feel very clean, and the terrace was dirty when I arrived. It would be better if hotel staff checked the room before guests came in.

The hot water was great, and for around NT$2000 a night at Sun Moon Lake, the price would be fine if basic cleanliness were taken care of. We booked five rooms, and three had problems: one bed was covered in women's hair, another had dried snot on the sheets, and a third smelled as though someone had slept there and it hadn't been cleaned. I reported it, and those issues were fixed right away. The overall surroundings were acceptable, but old, moldy bedding isn't a good choice. The pillowcases had mold, though we couldn't tell whether it was dirt or something else. Apart from the bad first impression from the beds, everything else was acceptable for the price. We can understand an older hotel, but clean bedding matters.

The air conditioner was quite noisy, which was the one drawback. I stayed in a four-person room on the 3rd floor of the new building. The mattress was comfortable, and there was plenty of room for my things, with a table, coat rack, and luggage rack. Soundproofing worked well between rooms, though corridor noise could still be heard.

The renovation is still going on in some rooms, despite the online claim that only the lobby was being worked on. The doorknob covers were still there, the frames were dusty, and the room smelled stuffy and a little unpleasant. I asked the front desk for an extra comforter, but they refused, saying the hotel was fully booked and had none available. Very disappointing for such a large resort hotel to lack such a basic amenity. It’s the same company as the adjacent Swissôtel, and they share parking and a front desk. Update: our four-person room had only three electrical outlets, and the hairdryer smelled like pickled cabbage.
