Sun and Moon Splendor

We were there Friday through Monday. It was quiet at night, and our room was clean, with a very cold air conditioner. The bed was far too small for two, and the shower is part of the bathroom, so the whole floor got wet. The refrigerator, kettle, and smart TV worked well. We paid about €55 a night to stay in a cheaper building a few doors away from the original house. When we asked about the house with the terrace, staff said we hadn’t booked it, it cost extra, and suggested we cancel and pay the difference. We didn’t cancel, and it took a long discussion to get the other building. Cash was the only accepted payment. The bus stop, about 60 meters away, has service in both directions at various times. The staff speak very little English, but we managed to communicate. Breakfast is free and Taiwanese style, with toast, butter, and jam, though the coffee wasn’t very good. The town gets extremely busy on Saturdays with tour buses and day-trippers. There are small shops, restaurants, Family Mart, and 7-Eleven. Across the road, the huge Wyndham Hotel looks completely out of place. Sun Moon Lake had over 5.5 meters less water than usual, after last winter, the driest in 75 years, so it was a shame to see it so low. We took the cable car to the Aboriginal Park on Sunday, which was really cool.
