The Richforest Hotel- Sun Moon Lake

The thin walls were a downside because you could hear what was happening outside, and parking was limited. Still, I recommend this hotel for its lakeside setting and larger rooms. There's a lounge area set up to face the lake, and the only restaurant in the hotel also has a good view. The rooms are carpeted, which is getting harder to find in TW, where the local preference is for easier room maintenance.

The hotel is in a great location and has a good lake view. But dusty, dirty carpet covers the whole place, and you can actually see a layer of dust forming on the swimming pool water.

The setting has a cozy feel from all the wood, and the location and view are good. But that didn't make up for the problems, especially at the price. There was no heating. We stayed in January and the room stayed at 16°C the whole time, with nothing we could do about it. We froze and slept in sweaters. Sound insulation was also terrible, so we could hear every conversation from the neighbors and had trouble sleeping. The room carpet was filthy and really disgusting. Completely not worth what we paid.

The cypress smell throughout was lovely, the view from my room was spectacular, and the staff were very friendly. They managed to add an extra bed for my family of five, and my kids enjoyed the cold-water pool. Some areas look aged, but the place was clean and I'd still highly recommend it. It's a family-friendly hotel in a perfect spot, and staying here made our Sun Moon Lake visit extra special.
