The bike trail is very close, and there’s a bike rental shop next door that gives guests a discount. We also found a laundry place nearby and a nice café that suited nomads. The hostel is above a 7-Eleven, and the area was good. I could hear a nearby bell, but it didn’t bother me. Our host was welcoming and made sure we were settled, even with the language barrier. She saw all our luggage and thoughtfully offered us a larger room. The room was clean, the beds were roomy and comfortable, and the shower had strong pressure and plenty of hot water. There’s a pleasant common area and balcony, too. I had a great stay and wish the hosts lots of luck and many more travelers.

The owner was very helpful, and Xingyue 2 Guesthouse sits in a handy spot by Shuishe Pier, close to the Shueishe Bus Station and Shuishe Visitor Center. There’s a 7-Eleven downstairs, and guests get a 200 TWD breakfast coupon per person each day. We couldn’t use all of ours over several days, so it felt like very good value. The rooms have basic guesthouse amenities and decent private bathrooms. One unusual perk is the owner’s secret bar, which is only open to guests. It’s a nice place to unwind with a drink. There’s also a large parking lot nearby. Sun Moon Lake has limited free parking, so drivers may need to rent a space in a public or private lot. Prices aren’t too high. You can also rent a car from the airport or Taichung Station. I think I’d stay here again on another visit to Sun Moon Lake.
