First Point Arusha Hostel

It’s just outside the city center, so the place stays quiet, but it’s still an easy walk into town. We had hot water and towels, and Johnson, the owner, was friendly and helpful. We wanted a peaceful, relaxed stay and got exactly that. We’d definitely come back.

The owner is very touchy about the electricity bill and will scold you for using a hair dryer. WiFi only works when he’s using it. Better to spend a little more and stay somewhere else.

Ana was welcoming and attentive, but the owner seemed really uninterested in us. The WiFi only worked when he was on his laptop. Each time we asked about it, they said they’d check, but nothing changed. Another employee said there was no WiFi, so bring mobile data if you stay here. It was also hard for the bajaj/boda to find the place, and a description in Swahili or a nearby reference point would help. I wouldn’t feel comfortable walking around the area alone at night. The place was clean and budget-friendly, and the experience was okay, but not the best.

There’s a beautiful garden in the backyard, and besides my room there’s always a nice spot to settle in and work on my laptop. People are always around, and we feel like a little family. Sometimes we cook together, and sometimes Mama cooks. It’s comfortable and safe here. I’ve been at Arusha First Point for two weeks and will stay another week. Whenever I’m in Arusha, this will definitely be my first choice.
