The people at The Chomps hotel made my last night in Dar es Salaam a good one. In particular, the breakfast cook got up at 5:30 to prepare food for me before I set off on my bike ride to Morogoro. I really appreciated that. It’s in a cute, quiet neighborhood near a main road with lots of modern shops. The hotel itself is typical of lower-cost places in Tanzania, so keep your expectations modest.

The restaurant service was good, and the location makes it easy to get around: it’s quiet but close to the main road. My room was a bit small, though. The receptionists could also handle requests and complaints better. When someone asked for a clean, dry towel, they said the towels had been locked away, so the guest had to use one that was still half wet.

The reception experience was awful. The woman seemed unwilling to work, didn’t answer the phone from our room while watching TV, and refused to give us a second towel even though there were two of us and only one towel. When I asked her a couple of things about breakfast, she was very rude. The room was clean, but small for two people. We stayed from 31july-1august, and I won’t return with staff like that.

The rooms are nice, but the shower heads need cleaning. Salty water has clogged some of them. The kitchen options could be better too, since I couldn’t even get a simple cup of tea.
