Boho Ocean House sits by the Indian Ocean, a short step from the sand. It’s part beach retreat, part design statement, part culinary experiment. These are boutique apartments with real taste, not the mass produced kind of “boho” decor. Handmade local pieces fill the space, giving it a considered Zanzibar feel rather than a souvenir shop look. The kitchen likes to do its own thing. Many dishes are chef created and personal, sometimes interpretive and a little mysterious. I like that the chef has a point of view. My gripe is that the pleasant wait staff could explain more clearly what’s coming to the table. Without that, some dishes feel like an inside joke you weren’t let in on. It’s on the pricier side, though not absurdly so, and that does raise expectations. Still, there’s plenty of atmosphere here, and the place clearly understands space and aesthetics.

I went here for my birthday and loved the meal. The team were so nice, and the food lived up to how tempting it sounded on the menu. There was plenty of it, and I left full. I started with the potato pancakes with tuna, which were perfect for a tuna lover like me. The eggplant with rice was the best eggplant I’ve had: meltingly soft, with miso that went beautifully with it, better than I expected. The rice was wonderful too, and they served a generous portion. We shared cheesecake and chocolate truffles for dessert. I’ve tried plenty of cheesecakes living in France, and this one was really good, without feeling too heavy after the meal. The truffles had avocado and mango, a combination I love, so definitely try them if you like those flavors. The restaurant is cozy and cute but still elegant, with plants and lovely decor. I liked the soft yellow lighting instead of bright white lights. There’s a cute pool in the middle, so even the walk to the toilets is charming. The team were welcoming, and although it’s a chic restaurant, I felt comfortable and at ease. I’d really recommend going. You’d miss out if you went home without trying it.

The food was fresh, full of flavor, and clearly made with care. Ocean Boho House in Jambiani also has a warm, relaxed atmosphere that made me feel at home straight away. It’s a special place, and I’d love to come back.

The rooms are spacious, clean, beautifully designed, and very comfortable for relaxing. Everything felt fresh and made with high quality ingredients, and this was without a doubt the best food I had on the island. You can taste the care that goes into it. The atmosphere is magical, relaxed, and cozy, and the service was 5/5. Everyone was so friendly and made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. I’ll definitely be back.
