Matemwe Attitude

Matemwe Attitude is the kind of place that helps you slow down and enjoy being in Zanzibar. We stayed in the Swim-Up Villa, which was the highlight of our trip. The rooms were beautifully designed, very comfortable and felt world-class, with a lovely blend of luxury and island charm. Stepping straight into the water when we woke up felt surreal. The staff were genuinely warm, friendly and happy to help. Dia, King Charles, Denis at the bar, Selin, Tina, Ebrahim, Steff and Victoria all made our stay extra special with their professionalism and kindness. A unique, beautiful getaway, and I’d absolutely recommend it. 10/10, would go again!

The setting was incredible, with gorgeous views, and our Deluxe Villa had its own garden pool. It was a very romantic stay, perfect for a honeymoon or anniversary. The staff went out of their way to look after us, and even some of the chefs came around to chat. The food was incredible. I also loved the environmentally conscious touches: fabric napkins, paper straws, and food served only when it was locally produced or caught. A special mention to just a few of the many lovely people there: Anthony, Seggio, Juma, Charles, Denis, Dai, Ibrahim.

Jambo Jambo! Our five days at Matemwe Attitude for our honeymoon went beyond what we expected. We got such lovely service from the moment we arrived until we left, and settled quickly into the warm, relaxed pole pole pace. The whole team made an effort to keep things comfortable and running smoothly. Thanks especially to Ravin and his team for being so kind and professional. We really hope to return soon and would happily recommend the hotel for a Zanzibar trip.

The area left us a little unsure about walking around. Some staff said it was safe, while others advised against it. We still had a great stay, especially in the amazing oceanfront villa, which was so relaxing. The food was an interesting mix. Most of it was tasty and nicely presented, though a few dishes weren’t quite what I expected. The lemongrass tikka chicken, for instance, sounded to me like curry and rice, but arrived on a skewer with seasonal vegetables. I ate it all, but read the menu carefully. The buffet was fresh and plentiful, with lots of choices, a chef making eggs in the morning and a special dish at dinner.
