Kimbilio Lodge

The chalets sit right on the beach, and the accommodation is simple but very comfortable. Food and service were excellent, and the Italian caretakers were extremely helpful and interesting to talk with. Kimbilio is a fantastic place to get away from the usual commercialized establishments, and I’d certainly recommend staying here. Set aside a day or 2 to visit the ruins. It’s worth taking a guide.

There’s a lovely ocean breeze, and the sound of the waves made for peaceful sleep. The hotel was very nice and relaxing overall. The stay would have been better with fresh sheets and a cleaner smell throughout.

The lodge is right by the beach, just 3 meters from where local people walk and enjoy the sea. You’ll be close to them, and can hear their voices clearly from inside. The staff say there’s no security problem. As for quality, it didn’t seem much different from other places called lodges. Some people may like this kind of place, but for this level of service I found it relatively expensive. I paid 120USD for one night. I might stay again if it were cheaper.

The rooms and garden are nicely designed, and the lodge has beautiful views from a great location. Kimbilio lodge is in Kilwa Masoko. I recommend it for families, solo travellers and couples travelling together.
