What really won us over was Kuwa’s design and pool area: a lush garden, a relaxing feel, and a beautifully designed, very clean room. The pool was gorgeous. We came in January 2026 after a safari for a few days of rest, and our high expectations were exceeded. Angelica, the owner, and all the employees were extremely kind and caring, always going out of their way to help. Breakfast in the sands was amazing, with Italian, international, and local options. The beach is a very short walk away, and there’s a separate area where sellers won’t bother you. As on the rest of Zanzibar’s east coast, the tide is strong. Kiwengwa is a quiet village with a few Swahili and Italian restaurants. We did have frequent power cuts, though those are regular on the island. I’d pick this place over a big resort every time and would love to return.

We were welcomed warmly and the staff were helpful and friendly throughout our 5-night stay. They made everything possible, from pizza in our room to the tours we booked. Thanks for such a lovely visit. We can recommend this accommodation 100%.

Kuwa was a fantastic place to unwind and enjoy the island. The beach is just a few minutes away, and Angelica, the owner, is such a 🙏 welcoming person. We had a really good stay!

The garden and pool are lovely, kept spotless, and have comfortable loungers. The staff were fantastic too, especially Joshua from the breakfast team, whose service stood out. We spent 4 nights at Kuwa and really enjoyed our stay. A couple of things could be better. The room water was salty, which was disappointing compared with other 4-star hotels on the island. Our ceiling fan also felt loose, and light from outside came into the room at night.

Gloria served the best breakfast we had on Zanzibar: plenty of fresh fruit, good coffee, and warm food made to order. The pancakes were especially good. One evening, Gloria and Emmanuel made Swahili food for all the guests, and it was really good. Thanks to them both for a nice stay. Kuwa Zanzibar has a few very good rooms and a swimming pool, with a gate and cameras. It’s a couple of minutes from Il Pontile and the beach, and there’s a supermarket selling alcohol about 1km up the street.
