Kiwengwa Beach is lovely, and at low tide it’s a short walk to the sandbank. The best Italian restaurant anywhere in Zanzibar is also just 150 metres away. For the price, this place compares very well with nearby accommodation. The hotel’s due to be renamed soon and isn’t on booking dot com yet, so anyone who wants to explore it will need to contact them by email or WhatsApp. We’re frequent travelers and highly recommend it. We’ve known the property since its early days, with our first visit back in 2015, and have seen several managers come and go. This month it reopened under a lovely British/Tanzanian couple, who seem to be staying on. There are only 12 rooms, with great views, a beautiful garden, and chickens wandering about. It’s a relaxing spot. The rooms are large and clean, the air conditioning works well, and there’s a fridge in each room. The pool area is fantastic, and the new staff are very friendly. Breakfast has lots of good choices. The chicken curry and enchiladas are well worth ordering for lunch or dinner. The South African white wine is excellent at 25 bucks a bottle, and local beers cost 4 bucks. Great value for the stay.

After three weeks at this small, traditional hotel, we left more than happy with our stay. The food was delicious, the rooms very spacious, and the staff super friendly. It’s in an authentic village, with a private beach just a one-minute walk away. We were a little surprised at first, but the place felt very safe and the villagers were exceptionally friendly. A big thank you to Frank, the manager, and Mada and Tudor, the owners. They were absolutely lovely, and we really enjoyed their daily company, advice, anecdotes, and 10/10 service. We wish them every success with the hotel. See you in Canada 😉⛷️ Léa & Mathis

The owner was especially lovely, and the staff were very friendly. They helped us with everything, from tour planning and tips to arranging transfers. The hotel is very close to the beach and even has its own beach bar. Highly recommended!

It felt more like a boutique hotel experience, so I didn’t have high expectations. The owner and his wife were still around. I stayed here once in 2014 and again last year, though I’ve only just got around to writing about it. If you make it there, everything is easy and helpful. We had trouble with a small domestic airline and I ended up having to get island tickets two more times. Anyway, give it a try once, and don’t forget the red monkey tour.

The staff were polite, lovely, and always ready to help. I especially liked the spacious rooms, which were kept clean. The food was amazing too. After trying the pizza, I ordered it every day, and I enjoyed everything else on the menu as well. Loved our stay and can’t wait to return!
