Mafia Island Bungalows

The staff were friendly and the food was good, and there was only one other guest during our stay. The rooms are nice, but we left after one night because power cuts made ours unbearably hot. We’d booked three nights and offered the owner a third of the total to cover the night we stayed. He charged us more than that, so the service could have been better. The accommodation is now called Coconut Mafia Island Bungalows. Although it’s outside the Marie Park gate, you still have to pay park fees of $23 USD per person each day. Those are collected separately from the hotel.

Hassan was a great host, and he and his crew cooked fresh seafood for us every day. The octopus was amazing! They helped us with everything, and Mudi took us out on boat trips and freediving afterward. The place is inside the national park but outside the gate, so it was accessible, quiet, and close to everything. There’s no AC and it was hot at night, but they did provide fans. Loved this place!

Hassan took such good care of us. I have a lot of dietary restrictions, and the chef made me delicious meals especially for me, including seafood that was to die for. Every detail was handled, from tours to transfers. He even did our laundry for free. I can’t recommend the place enough!

The power kept cutting out, and it was about a 40-minute walk to the beach. The manager tried to overcharge us for everything, including excursions, tuk-tuks, and airport transfers. He kept pushing us to eat there, asking about it four times a day. The people were unfriendly. They claimed the card machine wasn’t working so they could get cash from us. The worst part was that we paid him, and have a video and his confirmation, but he later pretended we hadn’t.
