The neighborhood is leafy and quiet, which made it a nice base for excursions. It’s a bit removed from downtown and other restaurants, though. Service was the best I’ve had in the region, with friendly staff who spoke English, and the rooms were very good by local standards.

We stayed both before and after our Kilimanjaro trek, and it was wonderful each time. The setting is beautiful, the beds are comfortable, and there’s good food and hot water for showers. Irene and Gladys, thanks for taking care of everything! :)

The buildings and gardens were a real highlight, and breakfast was good. We were there on the nights before and after our Kilimanjaro hike. The restaurant was less satisfying: service took a long time even when we were the only diners, and once I was served something different from what I’d ordered. After the hike, some of us also ended up with cold showers, which was a letdown after looking forward to a hot one for a week.

This hotel is handy for exploring the Kilimanjaro area, but be careful with valuables left in safekeeping. Our Tour Operator had directed our group to leave cash and valuables there. More than half of us got back less money than we had left, which shocked us and the Tour Operator. The hotel did reimburse us, and without that I would have rated it one star. I’d want to see sustained improvement before trusting its security.
