We had a tasty dinner after enjoying wine and the sunset from the restaurant, whose view was astonishing. The staff were kind and accommodating, and our spacious room looked out over beautiful greenery. We stayed at Lions Paw for one night on safari, and it was our favourite accommodation. The location meant we were the second jeep in the park in the morning, which was incredible.

Our room, number 16, had a crater view that was beyond anything we’d imagined. We could take it in right from bed, then sit outside on either the chaired patio or the chaise lounge patio. We only had one night here on our honeymoon, but the service made the occasion feel special, with wine, cake, and decorations in the room. What an incredible night.

The evening Maasai dance was well done and just the right length. We were invited to join in, which made it fun and memorable without dragging on. Service was good overall, with our attentive, helpful butler, Kidevy, and an engaged manager, John. The food fell short of what we had at Elephant Springs by Karibu. Our room was spacious and comfortable, though a bit basic, and the electric blankets and hot water bottles were welcome on the cool crater evenings. Lion’s Paw’s unbeatable spot on the Ngorongoro Crater rim and fantastic sunset are what set it apart. It’s worth a stay for the location and views, though dining could be better.

John, the assistant manager, greeted us when we arrived and helped everyone feel at ease. James, who they call Bond, was smiling, kind, and welcoming whenever we asked him for something. I saw him at breakfast at 6 am and again at dinner at 9 pm, always just as friendly. They make you feel special in a thousand ways, from how they make the bed and serve dinner to the greetings when you arrive and leave. They leave handwritten personal notes and ask about your day. We’ve been to many countries, but my teenage kids had never felt so special. In their words, “it’s crazy how they treat you.” The service is exceptional. If I’m lucky enough to come back, I’ll stay at Lion’s paw because of John and James.

The camp room was beautiful and had all the comforts of home. The dining room was lovely too, with incredibly good food and service that felt high end. It honestly felt like eating at a five-star restaurant. The location and views are stunning, especially at sunset. There’s so much to say about this camp.
