Hakuna Matata Guest House

The rooms are nice and well ventilated, and it’s close to the beach. The downsides are no WiFi or mobile data connection, and being a long way from shops and the main road.

It’s fairly close to the beach, and the bed was okay. But the rooms didn’t look like the pictures, and with all the noise it felt more like a hostel. Our toilet was broken, there were no towels, the staff weren’t friendly, and we only had cold water for showers. The owner said that was very normal, but they should have been honest and mentioned it in the description. The owner also wasn’t friendly when it came to finding a solution. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t really recommend this place.

There’s no working internet, and this is basically just somewhere to stop and lay your head. It’s close to the beach, but if you need WiFi or might have an emergency, I’d look elsewhere.

After a long, hot night in the room with no working fan, I went for a swim in the ocean. When I came back, the old rusty key broke in the door and I couldn’t get inside. I waited in the hallway for several hours, but nobody came to help, so I got a locksmith from the village to open it. Then I checked in at a much better hotel nearby. Several hours later, the owner, Sarah, emailed to say she’d contact the police unless I paid 100 dollars for the broken door. I told her I wouldn’t pay because the old key breaking wasn’t my fault, and there should have been someone around to deal with problems like that. She replied that she’d send guys to look for me all over the island. Hakuna Matata means No Problem, but this place was nothing but trouble. There was no wi-fi, no breakfast, no hot water, which is fair enough for budget accommodation, but there wasn’t a working fan or even a towel either. Terrible place. Don’t stay there.
