Cottage Duet

The price was excellent, and the hotel complex was well-kept and clean. We were a family of five adults and one toddler staying for three nights. The holiday home had no microwave or washing machine, though I’d expect at least one of those. The tap water stank so badly that one guest drank it and had serious stomach problems the next day. We stopped showering and switched to supermarket water. I’m afraid the water could be contaminated with Legionella, and it needs to be checked urgently, especially with children often staying there. Doing nothing would be irresponsible. There was also a prison-like curfew. After a lovely evening walk, we came back in the rain to find the gate shut and the bell not working. I had to climb over a very high gate to let my family in. The gate is damn locked.

We’ve stayed here 5-6 times over the past 10 years, and Ms. Olga, the hotel owner, has always been understanding. She’s a sincere, kind woman. The rooms are clean and always have what you need, and the grounds are closed and guarded at night. There are lots of lovely places and sights near the hotel. If you’re new to the area, try her horseradish, mead, and the Carpathian tea she brewed for us. Definitely a yes from us.

It’s a quiet, secluded cottage in a convenient spot for skiers and hikers. The local cuisine can be made for you on request, though this isn’t a standard option. The staff are friendly and committed to sorting out any problems, and the service is top-notch. I highly recommend it!

The hotel has a lot of rules from the start, even about things like faulty bathtubs and sofas. That can happen, and you might end up dealing with it. The real shock was the so-called “curfew.” It makes sense to lock the gates on private property, but there should be a way for guests to come and go without feeling guilty, as if someone watching the security cameras can’t go to bed because of you. As an adult, it feels like being in kindergarten.
