Mishel Hotel

We liked it here. The room shown in the picture costs 700 UAH a night, while booking through Booking.com costs more. It was warm, quiet, and cozy, and had what we needed: a toilet, shower, enough beds, a refrigerator, soap, shower gel, and a working TV. There’s a cafe on site with reasonable prices and a limited selection, but you can get coffee and a snack. We're taking off a point because the bathroom had a strong cigarette smell coming through the exhaust vent.

I was fairly comfortable here, but there were quite a few things that need attention, especially for a suite. The main room was fine, but the bathroom could have been cleaned better. The plumbing is worn, particularly the shower cabin. It looks nice, but the nozzles are all clogged and only the handheld shower works. There are two huge black cracks in the floor, unpleasant to step on. These problems could be fixed if someone paid attention. The window faces the wall of the neighboring house, and breakfast was pretty bleak, either oatmeal or scrambled eggs with tea from a bag. I liked the interior, with lots of space and air in the room, and there were no foreign smells, something many hotels struggle with. The staff were friendly and the location was good. Since we stayed in a suite, I can only guess the other rooms may be worse.

The staff really were friendly, but the room situation was frustrating. I booked through Booking.com after the search showed one large double bed at a price I liked. On arrival, it turned out to be a basement room with two small beds, and they had no alternative. After half an hour of arguing, the administrator offered to push the beds together and bring a mattress for two. Thanks for that. The next day they moved us to a suite, though the basement room was better. The suite was shiny and pretentious, but very old, with lots of dust on the curtains. The jacuzzi didn't work, there was nowhere to put the shower head, and when I chose to take a bath, the water was cold. The fridge was noisy and the TV lights were bright at night. There was no drinking water in the room, only at the bar, where it wasn't cheap. If you're picky, this probably isn't the place for you. Still, the staff were genuinely friendly.

The suite wasn't worth what we paid. We booked for three and paid extra for a third bed, but nobody brought one. The sofa bed was just part of the decor, and impossible to sleep on. It was broken, and the mattress they put on top didn't help. Our child kept sliding off and couldn't sleep, as if lying on slate. The shower's whirlpool system was clogged and didn't work, with only one setting usable. There was no holder for the shower head, and a crack in the base let water leak onto the floor. Breakfast was the biggest disappointment: oatmeal, or two plain fried eggs with nothing on them, not even a bit of vegetable or parsley, plus coffee or tea. Water cost extra, as did anything else from the menu. We didn't feel like paying more, so went to a proper restaurant. The website information didn't match what was actually available. To be fair, there were disposable shampoos, shower gels, shaving gel, razors, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and slippers. The shower room also had robes and towels. You can tell it must once have been a wonderful hotel, but now everything is in terrible shape.
