The only real drawback was the lack of an elevator. With a heavy suitcase, you have to carry it up all those stairs. Still, this is a cute hotel, the Dnipeer is nearby, and I like the place a lot. The city and its people are lovely, and the workers do their best to help.

The best part was the nice girl at reception :) The hotel feels old and Soviet-style. Rooms smell bad, there was no hot water, and the TV was old and only partly working.

If you don't speak Russian, let alone Ukrainian, the reception desk may be the one useful stop. People on the street probably won't understand brief English, while the front desk staff at this stiff-looking Soviet-era hotel know enough English for basic needs. That can save your sanity and spare you another regret about being in Ukraine. I'm not claiming their English is amazing, just that the basics are covered. At 23:00 there was no warm or hot running water, and the room heating was very weak. Bring your own blanket if you want to get through a cold October night here, as I did. I left around 8 in the morning, and the water still wasn't warm enough to shower. Maybe these shortcomings are so common in local hospitality that people barely notice them. Obviously, othey will suit everyone.
