Hotel Florida

The food was okay, especially the pancakes, though on our first morning we waited 30 minutes past the agreed time just to place our order. The room had a few problems: the bed creaked like crazy, the leather on the headrest was peeling onto it, and the bathroom wall covering was coming unstuck. The AC was set to 5 C during 30 degree heat, but barely changed the room temperature. It wasn’t a terrible stay, but this doesn’t feel like what a 3 star hotel should be.

The reception lady was kind, and our room matched the photos. What let things down was the restaurant. Breakfast was poor, with only five choices, and dinner was average at best. Also, how does a hotel restaurant hire people who speak almost no English? They couldn’t follow even basic questions and came across a bit rude.

The shower took about 15 minutes to get hot, and the water looked a little brown at first. The room was cramped, with no kettle or tea and coffee sachets, and no slippers. The bathroom had none of the complimentary basics like shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, or bathroom slippers, things even hostels often provide. Breakfast was awful, the coffee was bad and the eggs were cold. Staff were polite, at least. For a 3 star hotel, it was just bleh. We only chose it because we had work nearby, but I wouldn’t stay again.

The rooms were comfortable enough, but very basic, and breakfast was average, with service that felt like a factory kitchen. We were missing a towel for our daughter, though they brought one when we asked. Getting to the hotel was difficult in the snow in Kiev, since the staff hadn’t cleared the way. Parking is limited, and if there’s no spot in front, you have to park by neighboring buildings, which isn’t convenient. The location worked for what I needed to do nearby, but there are much better hotels in Kyiv.
