Hotel Salute

It’s clean and right downtown, with convenient public transport. The staff are kind and helpful, but the place has a Soviet feel in the worst way. Maintenance is lacking, traffic makes the rooms noisy, and breakfast was poorly prepared. If you can, I’d choose a superior room.

We went to Hotel Salute because of its distinctive Soviet-era architecture. We also had snacks and drinks at the restaurant, where the attentive, pleasant staff gave good service. Prices were fair, and the food and drinks were good quality. Recommended.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the room looked renovated. It has laminated wood flooring, though I’d prefer carpet for warmth. There’s air conditioning, but the heating didn’t seem to work. The TV is a CRT, and the door opens outward.

My sixth-floor room looked toward the Dnieper river and had good views, especially from the balcony. It was still a bit chilly, though. The heated aircon helped, but outside the bed there was a slight cold feeling. I was there in January, which I believe is Ukraine’s coldest month. I stayed one night to see this local landmark, and the building really is impressive. The hotel itself feels dated and could use a refurb, but my room was clean and tidy, and the staff were helpful. Pechersk Lavra, the Holodmor Genocide museum, and the Great Patriotic war museum are all convenient to visit from here. Arsenalna metro stop is a short walk away, as is the fantastic Kyiv Food Market. For anyone with access needs, limited mobility, or a wheelchair, there are two lifts. The floor design makes it easy to move between levels, which are mostly connected by a spiral ramp. Worth visiting if you’re aware the hotel isn’t especially modern.
