Inn on Zhytomyrska

The rooms are fairly spacious, clean, and comfortable, and the Wi-Fi connection is good.

The hotel is old but clean, and the location is nice.

I don’t understand why this place has such high ratings here and on Booking. The mini-hotel is frankly awful. It’s near Zhytomyrska metro station, among panel apartment blocks. There’s a shelter and security on the property, which are about the only relative positives. The lobby feels Soviet, and there’s almost never anyone at reception, day or night. We stayed in room 26. It was spacious, but the furniture was cheap and old, and the beds were bent, full of holes, and looked about 50 years old. The room was VERY DIRTY. The walls had streaks, the furniture and handles were dirty and even sticky, and the sheets had holes, though at least they’d been washed. The tulle curtains were black instead of white. The bathroom, with its shower, sink, and toilet, was so dirty I was afraid to touch anything. We could barely step into the shower, only on tiptoe. The toilet was filthy, with urine inside and out, and it looked as though the tiles hadn’t been washed since they were installed. The toilet not being properly cleaned left a horrible smell in the room. Disposable slippers and little packets of shower gel and shampoo, ridiculous as they were, didn’t help. Even if the place is modest, it should at least be clean. They could have washed everything with bleach so guests wouldn’t fear for their health. Hotel management, please hire cleaners and have some conscience. The service was simply terrible, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Our double room cost 800 UAH. We had to stay the night because it was already late, but we didn’t stay any longer. The next day we found a gorgeous hostel with a double room for the same price. Again, I don’t recommend this place.

It’s about a 10-minute walk to the train station, and check-in was quick. The staff were friendly, the room was clean, and the bathroom was clean too. There was a mini-fridge, kettle, and TV, and the Wi-Fi worked well. I was a bit disappointed there were no disposable slippers, but otherwise it was great. I recommend it.
