One Step Independence Square Hostel

My first night in Kiev was here, and it ruined the whole trip. My waist bag was stolen, with valuables including a camera and tablet inside. Locals who live and run a similar hostel nearby told me theft was common and claimed the manager stole too, working with other local guests. A tall, thin man from Odessa who had been staying there for months showed me a knife and said even the lockers were easy to open with it. Food of mine was stolen easily too. There seemed to be no security, and the place felt more dangerous than being outside. I went to the nearby police after this, made a report, and they are still investigating. I can show the report. They charged me without explaining the fee beforehand, then took no responsibility for what happened in the accommodation, saying it was my responsibility and that they didn't know. They used not speaking English as an excuse. The management seemed rude and easy to deceive guests. The photos are almost fake, in my view. This hostel is actually the same as Golden Gate hostel. From the photos of the previous place, I guess the owner may have changed a few years ago, since the furniture and management now seem completely different. The current place is messy and seems to lack any passion for running it. Don't go near it now, it's too dangerous.
