Lion's Castle

The hotel is beautiful, high-end, and in a lovely neighborhood. Staff were great and helpful. Inside, the wood staircase and floors are beautiful, the living area has lovely premium wallpaper, and the tiled bathrooms were spotless. Just be aware there are three flights of stairs and no elevator. Breakfast is included, but we had to leave before the cafeteria opened at 8. A grab-and-go option would be a nice addition. We stayed Friday night through Saturday morning, and loud, bass-heavy music from a venue next door or somewhere downstairs on the property kept things from being quiet. I'm not sure where it was coming from. Light sleepers looking for a peaceful night may be disappointed. The shower only got lukewarm to warm, with no properly hot water.

The place looks nice, but as other reviewers have said, the meat isn't edible. The salad was good. Service was really bad: the staff were unfriendly, couldn't be relied on to keep their word, and did whatever they wanted. It feels like a place for the owners, not for guests.

We stayed in the newer building. The rooms had comfortable beds, though we ran into a couple of small problems: the door lock didn't work properly, and when we opened the curtain to admire the view, it fell off the rail because there was no side bar or stopper. Still, this is a lovely place. The historic building sits within a large park, and there's a nice terrace by the bar, which serves drinks, a few snacks, and desserts. The staff were friendly. I wish we'd discovered it sooner.

I come to Lviv for a week about every other month, and Lion's Castle is always my pick. The room prices are very reasonable, the rooms are great and tidy, and the staff are as friendly as can be. I also love the restaurant and room service. You've got to try the cheesecake, risotto, and burger. Highly recommend!
