Stara Chata

The first thing that stayed with me was how peaceful it was to sit by the Pistynka River, with its steady sound all around. There are several ways down to the water, and in summer it would be a lovely place for swimming and a beach day. I also spotted plenty of interesting places nearby: Opryshkiv rocks, the Studeny Potik waterfall and its bridge are about a kilometer up the river; another kilometer brings you to the Dovbusha cave and the start of an easy walk toward the Rosokhata mountain range. The hotel also makes a useful base for hikes to Mount Grehit and other Zaprutsky Gorgany peaks. Shepit is just a 30-minute drive away, though the road is rough, and there aren’t really suitable places to stay farther on. The rooms look out toward the mountain slopes across the river. They’re wooden and decorated in an ethnic style, with new, practical furniture and some thoughtful design and technical touches. Wi-Fi worked well in the rooms and around the grounds, and mobile reception was available too. Outside there’s a pool, hot tub, gazebo, swing, playground and a pleasant bathhouse. The grounds have a traditional Carpathian feel, almost like an open-air museum. The details use old building methods, and one hut, built in Verkhovyna in 1896, was recently moved here and restored. At first, I wondered how a hotel could be tucked away in such a remote spot. The navigator brought us there just fine, though. We were met with warm hospitality, spotless rooms and incredibly tasty Carpathian food. It’s a comfortable place to slow down and recharge, especially if you love nature or fishing. The price and quality also compare very well with other places nearby. I came away with lovely memories and a wish to return, and I agree with the other guests who’ve praised this special place.

I really didn’t want to leave. They welcomed us like family and made us feel cared for and at home. I won’t add a lot of photos, there are already plenty here. Be sure to order a chan.

The room had a comfortable bed and pillows, and I slept well. You can hear the nearby river from the room, and swim in its cool mountain water if you like. There are also two swings within walking distance on the mountain slopes. In the yard, guests can use the pool and sun loungers, while children have a playground and trampoline. There’s a shop nearby for basic groceries. We were welcomed like family, and the hospitality and service were excellent. It’s a good place to get away from the daily rush and work. They’ll prepare breakfast, lunch or dinner and bring it right to your room. The food was delicious. I especially recommend the syrnyky for breakfast, as well as the creamy soup, stuffed baked potatoes and dumplings.

We returned in August for our second stay, and we’ll definitely come again. It’s peaceful, the service is lovely, and the views are incredible. The Pistinka River is a wonderful place to be alone with nature and clear your head. Thanks to the hosts for such a great break ☺️
