The old furniture and very high ceilings give the rooms an unusual, authentic feel, especially if you’re visiting from outside the former Soviet world. I can see the appeal, but the rest of the stay matters more to me. For what it costs, I’d choose another hotel. Every room opens onto a narrow shared hall where the reception desk is. Two local women cover the day and night shifts. The day receptionist was fine, but the night receptionist was rude and made us uneasy whenever we came and went. Sounds from the hall carried straight into the rooms, and she talked constantly. We didn’t feel comfortable asking her to keep it down because she might hit us. The bed was old and noisy, so we couldn’t sleep comfortably. The entrance felt dark, creepy and unwelcoming, with three doors to pass through before reaching the room. The stairs were dirty and untidy. I don’t think the hotel deserves even the average ratings it has on Google or Booking.com.

The rooms are awesome, almost like living in a castle. There’s no elevator, though.

Nadia did her best to help, and her English made things much easier. Still, I wouldn’t stay here again, and I wouldn’t return to Odessa either. 😊 The rooms are clean and roomy, with high ceilings, and close enough to the center to walk. They weren’t cold, but they also weren’t warm enough for a family with children. The hotel occupies the second floor of an old six-room building, reached by a lot of stairs from the entrance. There’s no elevator, so it doesn’t work well for people with disabilities or families using strollers. Our room, number 6, sometimes had a bad smell, apparently because the plumbing is old.
