Sherwood Hotel

The setting is lovely, with plenty of nature and a fairly peaceful feel, though the electric leaf blowers interrupt that calm. This was our second visit, and before this time we’d only eaten at the restaurant, not stayed at the hotel. The restaurant service was really poor. We waited 1 hour and 50 minutes for our grilled food. The waitress said she’d seen the chef plating it, then came back ten minutes later with the bill and no food. Please give guests honest updates, even if the wait is 2.5 hours. I also heard other diners at the counter say they’d waited over an hour for bottled beer. That’s just ridiculous.

The forest and lake around the hotel were a highlight for our two-night group visit. I even went swimming. The staff were friendly and upbeat, the room was clean, towels were replaced each day, and I always had hot water. For this price, the room was above average and had air conditioning, which isn’t common at this level in Ukraine. Most of the food was tasty, and my stay was positive enough that I’d consider returning. A few room details were less good: the shower holder was broken, so I had to hold the head while washing, though it wasn’t a major issue. The furniture was fine, but the double bed had a cheap, squeaky spring mattress. There’s no elevator in the five-floor hotel, which makes it unsuitable for disabled guests, people with strollers, or anyone who doesn’t want to climb four or five floors. Wi-Fi coverage was uneven across the several networks. Reception worked in some spots, but on my fourth floor it was slow and often disconnected. Wi-Fi reached about 20-30 meters around the hotel, but not reliably. I had no cellular reception in or near the hotel, so I depended on that patchy Wi-Fi. Bring what you need ahead of time. The nearest shop is around 6 km away, so you can’t pick up cigarettes, alcohol, or other items once you’re at the hotel compound. Management should add an elevator, better routers and faster internet, improve the mattresses, and open a small convenience store on site.

It’s a decent spot beyond the city, and it doesn’t get too crowded. Food can take a while, especially the meat, so leave time when ordering. If you’re driving out from the city for just the day, booking a table beforehand could be a good idea.

The location, rooms, and food were all nice. Service slows down a lot when the orders pile up, so they need more waiters, particularly on weekends.
