Avalon Palace

I’ve stayed here before and always liked the service, but this visit felt like a new level of looking after guests. I booked by phone from one day to the next and got a discount for the last minute. They also let me check in much earlier than the official time and have breakfast that day instead of the next, since I’m usually awake at night. I know I got lucky with some of that, and early entry might not always be possible without an extra charge. Still, the place has a real customer first attitude. Five stars!

Breakfast was decent, though I wouldn’t expect anything special on the menu. The service stood out, and the hotel was one of the cleanest I’ve seen. It’s close to the city center and right by the railway station. I stayed five nights and would definitely recommend Avalon Hotel.

The restaurant food is especially worth trying, and breakfast was really tasty. The room was clean and the service good. It’s a cozy place in a nice location, and the railway station noise wasn’t very noticeable.

The restaurant staff were lovely, friendly and chatty, and breakfast had lots of choices, including dietary options. The Italian coffee was fresh too. The reception and lobby made a strong first impression, with stylish design, a modern elevator and some nice interior touches. My room was roomy, tastefully decorated and fairly clean, with a comfortable mattress and fresh, crisp linen. There were a few things that let the stay down: no bathrobe, nowhere in the shower for my toiletries, and no hook for a washcloth. There was no bin in the room or the complimentary water that had been promised. The curtains had a couple of small brown marks, and the bathroom wall light didn’t work properly. None of those issues was a huge disappointment on its own, but together they took away from the impression. Some reception staff also weren’t very welcoming. I’ve worked in customer service for over five years, and a smile really does make a difference. I’d give the hotel a solid B. There’s plenty to improve, but enough good here that I might come back someday.
