Summit Safari Lodge

We were cycling from bunyoni to mbarara when Charles and Ruth, the really nice hotel managers, invited us to stay for a night. The rooms were luxurious, clean, and comfortable. We could hear cars from the street, but it didn't bother us. The staff at Summit Safari Lodge were very welcoming and gave me the best service I've had in Uganda so far. They turned on the Wi-Fi, which was really strong, and the food was tasty and fairly priced. I can really recommend staying a few nights here on the way to Bunyoni or Mbarara.

This is about our experience trying to stay here, not the accommodation itself. We chose this place because the other options in Muhanga didn't appeal to us. We knew the rooms might be out of our budget, but plenty of fancier places in Uganda let you camp for a reasonable rate, usually 10,000 to 30,000UGX per person per night. Rooms here start at 250,000UGX, too expensive for us, so we asked about camping. The lady said 10,000UGX, a very fair price that surprised us. We checked again, and she confirmed it was 10,000UGX per person per night. Glad to have found a nice spot for a fair price, we brought our bicycles and camping gear to where we would pitch the tent. The same lady offered us a drink and said fresh juice was 5,000UGX per glass, a good price. We sat down in the restaurant and enjoyed it. When we later asked to pay for camping, we were surprised to be told it was 100,000 UGX per person per night, or 200,000UGX for two, almost the price of a 250,000UGX room. That was too expensive for us, so we said we'd finish our juice and leave. Then the bill came to 10,000UGX per glass, double the quoted price. When we asked, the response was, “Sorry, the price has changed.” It took a long conversation with the receptionist to eventually get back the change based on the original price we were given. I think it's fine to charge expensive prices for things and services, but the prices need to be clear beforehand. They can't just be raised after the fact. Based on our customer experience, I clearly wouldn't recommend this place.

Such a serene, beautiful place, and I definitely recommend it. There are lots of fun activities a short drive away, like kisiizi falls, zip lining, and a tour of lake bunyoni. They also serve the best cup of coffee!

A very cool environment with great customer care. The food was on point and the place was extremely clean.
