Acacia Hotel

The service deserves five stars, especially at such an affordable price. I still think it’s the best at that price. I also liked the restaurant and its traditional Ethiopian food.

For what it costs, this place is decent. The staff are friendly and helpful without hovering, and the hotel itself is nothing special but perfectly okay. Nights in the neighborhood can get noisy, so keep that in mind if noise bothers you. You can also ask for a softer mattress.

The staff did try their best, but the hotel seems badly run. My reservation had been erased, and I had to push to get the breakfast I’d booked. What they served was plain bread with sweet tea. There was no hot water in the bathroom, the fan was loud, and there were no mosquito nets.

Florence at reception was wonderful and went out of her way to help sort things out. The rest of the place felt very basic: most toilets didn’t work, the plugs were broken, internet was slow, and getting towels was difficult. Breakfast was a shame in a country with so much good, inexpensive local fruit. It felt like the owner or manager was trying to cut costs as much as possible, and that was a very bad calculation.
