Makerere University Guest House

It’s affordable and in a great, safe spot, with quick access to the city and a good range of food. The rooms and the rest of the place could use some infrastructure updates. That seems like a top management issue rather than a problem with the staff. I’d recommend it if you’re not after somewhere especially modern.

The guest house wasn’t a very nice stay. The showers are poorly designed, there are no bathroom racks for towels, and the flushing system is bad. I saw lizards running along the walls at night, and there wasn’t a kettle in the room to boil water for coffee.

The building and atmosphere are nice, but the service was poor. There were plenty of workers around, yet I kept having to get the attention of staff who seemed lazy and absent-minded. Someone only brought my bill when I walked out to my car. I put the problem down to Ugandan work attitudes.

It’s a quiet, secure place, with residents and security there around the clock. I enjoyed the clean, pollution-free surroundings and the peaceful atmosphere, which is good for reading, especially for people in advanced education. Lunch and dinner are available on site. Makerere university Guest house is amazing.
