Pangolin Nest was a stressful experience, and I still haven’t received the refund they promised. This was a month ago; despite several emails and promises to pay me back, the money hasn’t arrived. The manager refused to give me cash and said she’d make a bank transfer. I decided to leave and find somewhere else after waiting to see if the A/C would work. Neither room had working air conditioning: in the second room, the receptionist replaced the batteries and insisted it worked, but it only blew very hot air. The first room’s AC was also out, and its door wouldn’t lock from inside, so anyone could get in. As a solo female traveler, with the hotel completely empty, that felt unsafe. The food menu was very basic, with unhealthy options, and there’s no restaurant, just tables in the lobby and garden. When I brought my bags back to reception to wait for my taxi, the manager arrived upset that I was leaving. She reprimanded the receptionist, said she didn’t want to lose a client, and kept insisting I had to stay. Awful experience.

From the panoramic terrace or your room, you can watch Kampala below turn into a field of lights at sunset. The hillside views are stunning, and each sunrise is a spectacle too. Inside, the rooms feel sophisticated, with thoughtful details that make it easy to relax. The architecture blends beautifully into the landscape, and the staff bring genuine warmth and attentiveness. This is a gem in the hills, a timeless retreat where the city views and luxury come together.

I’ve spent half my life in hotels and furnished apartments over the last 15 years, and this is beyond what I expected. I’ll come back whenever I’m in Kampala. It’s the prettiest boutique hotel I’ve stayed in, with a feel that’s both like home and like heaven on earth. The gorgeous garden, the quiet, and the birds and trees make it easy to forget you’re in Kampala. I even found myself forgetting I have another home elsewhere. The dining room and lobby feel private and homely, the bedrooms are cozy, and the WiFi is perfect for work. Still, I’d say put your files aside for a few hours and enjoy the silence in the garden.

The views are beautiful, and the place is wonderfully quiet. I stayed here years ago, before it became a hotel, and I’d happily recommend it.

The team really delivers. The rooms are comfortable and well equipped, the food and service are very good, and the setting is stunning and peaceful. Such a lovely place. I’d give it six stars if I could.
