Buffalo Safari Lodge

John, one of the park elephants, came by for a visit and seeing him lumber in was so cool. The setting is incredible, and the staff were wonderful, even bringing us a delicious birthday cake. There are plenty of good food choices, especially the local dishes. I’d highly recommend it.

The wildlife right around the lodge made our stay feel magical. Buffalo were around the watering hole the whole time we were there, and we watched elephants in the distance over lunch. Another elephant showed up at reception, then one woke us right outside our bedroom door. The pool looks out over the water, and being so close to the park is hard to beat. We’d happily return. Everyone on the team was welcoming and accommodating. Meals are three courses, with orders taken ahead of time. Every soup was phenomenal; our favorite was the fried pork chop, and a few of the desserts were pretty good too. We were pleasantly surprised by the food. Hot water was the one drawback. It came on briefly at the start of a shower, then wouldn’t stay hot. It was warm out, so it wasn’t a huge problem.

We loved the pool, which was clean and clear, and watched elephants in a nearby clearing while we relaxed in it. When we first arrived, one walked through the dining area. Dinner outside was great, too. We spent two lovely nights in both sides of the M cabin near the lodge. The rooms were huge and comfortable, with a balcony for viewing. Meals were great. As at many safari lodges, we chose what to eat at the previous meal, and the food we got was very good. We also had cold Nile, Tusker and Bell beers. We lost power for a few hours one night, but that’s how it goes in the jungle. We had no complaints and would happily stay a week.

From the start, the staff made us feel welcome. They’re kind, attentive and clearly put real care into looking after guests and the details. Such a beautiful place with a lovely team. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend it.
