Robert, the owner, made booking my two-day safari with Kazinga Safari camp a good experience from our first conversation through to my departure. The staff were accommodating, and Jerome, my driver and guide for both days, knew a lot and helped me spot birds as well as animals. The first day was a morning game drive on the Kesenyi plains, followed by a two-hour boat ride on the Kazinga channel. We saw antelopes, warthogs, hippos, elephants, savannah buffaloes, and lions on the drive, along with raptors including a martial eagle, long-crested eagle, and serpent eagles, plus vultures scavenging. The boat ride was disappointing, with no significant sightings. I found it a rip-off; they should consider an afternoon drive after lunch, or ideally a night drive like they have in South Luangwa in Zambia. Day two was for Ishasha in the south of QENP. The 80 km drive each way on a dirt track full of deep potholes and water puddles was tough and took three hours. Ishasha is known for tree-climbing lions, but rangers at the gate said the pride had moved into neighbouring Congo forests and hadn’t been seen for the previous five days. We didn’t see leopards either, only savannah buffaloes, antelopes, elephants, warthogs, and hyenas in the area. Actually, the drive to Ishasha was more fruitful than the area itself. Along the way we saw a pride of lions, hippos fighting, huge elephants with amazing tusks, baboons, black and white monkeys, raptors, and vultures. No martial eagle this time, but there were plenty of long-crested black eagles and at least two types of serpent eagles. Wildlife is unpredictable, so you have to be content with the effort of exploring. Jerome did his best, and my photos show that. Enjoyable.
The staff were the best I’ve ever seen, the facilities were nice, and the food was delicious. We also had a boat trip and a safari drive straight from camp. For the price of a regular lodge, this felt like a top one. Our stay at Kazinga Wilderness Safari Camp was more than perfect. I’d recommend it to everyone.
The Dawa tea was delicious, with its ginger, garlic, and honey flavor. It seems perfect if you’re feeling a bit run-down or unwell. We had a great time at the lodge overall. It’s well located, and dinner by the fire pit was a nice highlight. The staff’s friendliness varied, but most were quite friendly. The outdoor seating really needs cleaning, and the rooms are very basic. We’d still be happy to come back.
The night guards were very helpful, but the meals need improvement. The rooms could use an upgrade too. There’s no Wi-Fi in the rooms, no emergency numbers posted, torn mosquito nets, and barely any hot water in the showers. Bats made both nights unbearable. There were no slippers, handwash, Vim, or insecticide despite all the insects.
We loved the raw feeling of being right in the middle of Queen Elizabeth National Park, with hippos and hyenas calling as animals moved freely at night. Robert and the local community have created a beautiful camp with impressive luxury tents that were both comfortable and unique. The wood was beautiful, and the enclosed outdoor shower was a special touch. The staff were great. Ben is a fantastic chef, and Rebecca was wonderful help. On our second night, the local community put on a lively dance and music performance for us. It was a very special part of the stay, and we appreciated it so much. Being here was one of the most memorable parts of our trip.
