The Elephant home

This is a simple, calm place that's clearly well cared for. I camped in my tent, though rooms are available, and the facilities were clean. The grounds are lovingly maintained, and the staff were remarkably attentive and caring. The Elephant Home is also part of a community project that supports, among other things, a local school, which gave my stay an added sense of purpose.

The location made it easy to get to the national park, and I liked seeing local handmade art in the check-in lobby. Elephant Home is run by a very kind local man who wants to do good and give guests a lovely experience in Uganda. As an American traveler, I had to be smart because it's very close to the border of the DRC, and some checkpoints put me a bit on edge. Still, I had a wonderful stay with wonderful hosts. Thank you.

We stayed with our rooftop tent car and enjoyed the restaurant's great food and the shower. It's a great place and a project that supports the local community.

The village walk was one of the most memorable parts of our trip. My husband and I were deeply moved by our time there, and the walk helped us understand why The Elephant Home exists and the important work it does for nearby communities. We also toured a farm, learned how they grow vanilla, cocoa and coffee and make banana wine, and visited a fish farm. It was all very interesting, and I highly recommend it. The food is very good, and the staff are warm and responsive. We even had a friendly gecko hanging out in our room. A note on the hot water: the website says there isn't any, so that shouldn't come as a surprise. You do need to ask them to turn on the generator to charge things, but that was never a problem. The location is great, close to the entrance of Queen Elizabeth National Park and to a small town.
