Travelodge Aberdeen

The two ladies at reception deserve five stars. They were very friendly and helpful, and I’m grateful for the extra help. The food was good, and the coffee was standard, but having three syrups to add made me really happy. The location is perfect for walking into the city centre. The cleanliness was awful. There was dirt everywhere, and the huge cobwebs in the hallways had dried flies caught in them, so they’d clearly been there a while. The bathrooms in the rooms were filthy, with so much dirt and mould that we didn’t use the bath or shower during our five-day stay. I left feeling filthy too. It would take at least a month closed to put the place right with that level of dirt. Smokers gather right at the entrance, even though there’s a blocked-off doorway two metres away that would be a perfect smoking area. It’s unfair to make non-smokers and children walk through smoke to enter or leave. I wouldn’t stay here again unless it gets a massive clean. Come on, Travelodge, you let us down. This is only the second time since I became a Travelodge customer.

The faulty fire alarm went off 14 times overnight, and in the end everyone had to stand outside in the cold. They didn’t apologise. When we complained, the offer was “early check in on our next visit”, which was an absolute joke. If you need a restful night’s sleep, don’t stay here.

I checked in late at night, and the process was efficient. I was in room 408 at the rear. After reading earlier reviews about noise from the front, I was able to choose my own room. Breakfast was quiet the next morning, which suited me fine. It was my first stay here and a good experience. I’d definitely come back, especially with the railway station so close.

The staff were friendly and accommodating, and breakfast was a well-priced all-you-can-eat buffet. Scrambled eggs were the only option, which didn’t bother me, though I know some people would prefer a choice. There’s no parking at the hotel, but you can use other city parking. It’s an ideal spot for public transport, just a short walk from the bus and train stations. We used park and ride. The hotel could use some TLC at some point, but it was clean, comfortable and just right for what we needed on a city break.
