We eat out a lot, and we wouldn’t give a 10 out of 10 lightly, but that’s what we both thought of this evening. We came to try the restaurant before bringing friends, and were so glad we did. We both enjoy cooking at home, so it’s not often we’re pleased we went out, but the whole evening was a success. The restaurant felt contemporary and welcoming, and we had a lovely table after booking. Everyone who served us was engaging and seemed genuinely happy to be there. The varied menu had plenty of choice, including fish and vegetarian options, and we found something we liked in all three courses, which is unusual for us. We’ll certainly return with friends. Wholeheartedly recommend it, and well done, maybe the jewel in the crown :)

The room really let the hotel down. Its dark decor may suit the age and character of the building, but the lighting was inadequate too. In the evening I struggled to read on the sofa, and had to use my phone torch at the dressing table because both the mirror lights and the lamp were so dim. It seems like the lighting could be improved without much trouble or expense. The hotel itself is decent and conveniently close to the town centre. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was great.

The Crown & Thistle has a lively atmosphere, and the few events I’ve attended have been excellent and well attended. I’ve been coming for a few years, and the service, food and accommodation have stayed top tier. The staff are personable, professional and courteous. Their pizzas are especially tasty, and I enjoy the rotating beer selection.

We had our work Christmas dinner in the barn tonight and had a lovely evening. The food was great, and Fred and Amber behind the bar couldn’t do enough for us. I couldn’t fault anything. It’s also my go-to for a decent Sunday dinner. Fab place, fab staff, fab food. 100% recommend.

The place looks great and the service was good. But the non-alcoholic drinks and food were extremely disappointing, nowhere near mediocre. We came in hungry and left let down. Apologies to the chefs if they see this, but there’s no hate behind the feedback.
