The Tavern - Steakhouse and Lodge

That cauliflower cheese was spot on, properly cooked through and full of flavour from the sauce. We got an extra jug of gravy for our table of five. I would have preferred a bit more meat flavour in it, but that's just my taste. Best Sunday dinner I've had in years, 10 out of 10 for taste. 😋

The people here were really lovely, and the food was delicious. We had ribeye steak and chilli with rice and chips, plus a side of red cabbage. The steak was excellent, my husband's chilli was just as good, and the homemade chips were great. We may stay here for a couple of nights next time we're in Northumberland.

Olfa had saved us a lovely table by the fire, and she and the rest of the staff were attentive, friendly, chatty, and efficient. The tables and bar area were clean, with none of that sticky feeling you sometimes get in pubs. The gents' toilets were spotless too, right down to the sparkling tiles. We booked lunch today, and both the food and service were exceptional. This was our fourth visit in four years while visiting the area with our caravan. It hasn't let us down, and seems to improve each time. Well done, we'll be back. John and Lynn

It used to be a cracking pub. Now it feels like a restaurant in all but name. I'm sure the food is good from the reviews, but if you're going for a drink, I'd go elsewhere. Drinkers are sent to one of only two small areas, which made us feel second class. It takes away from any community or local feel. On arrival, we were told to wait to be seated, which felt very un-pub-like and made me think it wouldn't be a good experience. The owner also has two other places in Alnmouth and Amble with the same restaurant-led approach. To cap it off, the manager was quite rude to a member of staff in front of customers.
