Kevin gave us some great hiking tips, and Melrose is very well placed, with the lake, town centre, shops and lots of trails all within reach. The Victorian rooms are well appointed and modern. We had a superior suite with a very comfortable bed, and a delicious full English breakfast with gluten-free bread. Kevin and Tracey were so welcoming and kind. They even let us leave our bags after checkout so we could tour town for the day. We already can’t wait to return someday. Highly recommend if you’re in Ambleside. Thank you both for a lovely memory!

We’ve stayed in plenty of guesthouses and hotels in Ambleside, but after Melrose we won’t be looking elsewhere. The place is immaculate, and it’s clear they take real pride in it. We even tried to find a flaw, but nothing looked even slightly worn. Our room was comfortable and the location is prime, with parking, clean rooms, great food and amazing hospitality. Tracey was attentive and friendly at breakfast, which had fantastic quality ingredients and a great choice. Before we arrived, she also texted to say we could check in at 10am and use the car park, a huge bonus. When I ran into an issue booking online, I called and got the answerphone. I was about to try another hotel, but Tracey called back within a minute and sorted the issue. She welcomed us on arrival and showed us to our room.

We had a lovely weekend stay. The room was spacious and very clean, and the whole place felt welcoming. Breakfast was delicious, though I forgot to take a photo before we started eating.

Breakfast is where Melrose really excels. You choose the next morning’s breakfast on a sheet left in your room. There was loads of choice, including vegetarian options, avocado on toast and croissants. I had the best sausage I’ve tasted in years and perfect scrambled eggs. Our friends said the overnight oats were really good too. We stayed in ground-floor room 8, the four-poster, just ten paces from the breakfast room. It was lovely, with plenty of tea and coffee, a rainforest shower and a smaller shower head as well. Tracey and Kevin were fantastic hosts. When we visit the Lakes again, we wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else. Thanks again, Andy and Angela.

We felt right at home for the week. Tracey and Kevin were wonderfully kind and accommodating, and Kevin kindly carried our luggage upstairs. Breakfast was delicious, with a wide selection. The location is great, close to the town centre and plenty of food options, and guaranteed parking is just a two-minute walk away. What an amazing little find!
