The centre of Ambleside is only a 5 to 10-minute walk away, which adds to Wanslea’s appeal. Our room had a lovely view of the surrounding area, was very clean and came with a television, en-suite and tea-making facilities. It overlooked the main road, but traffic noise wasn’t too loud. Steve and Tina were wonderful, accommodating hosts, including with dietary needs, and happy to suggest pubs, restaurants, local walks and gift shops. Breakfast was lovely and well organised, and Steve made a point of chatting to every table each morning. You could see the guest house has repeat visitors. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily come back. We’ll recommend it to family and friends.

Breakfast was made to order from what we requested the night before, so service was prompt. The food was good and set us up for the day. The hosts are very nice, and the location is close to Ambleside’s pubs, cafes and even two michelin star restaurants. Parking is limited, but we had a guest permit for a car park about 1 minute away, which also worked at some other local car parks. The entrance and stairways have traditional decor in this old building, while the room and en suite were modern, spacious and immaculately clean. Definitely somewhere we’d stay again if in Ambleside.

We were in town after only a short stroll, and the rooms were just right. The hosts were generous and made us feel very welcome, and the breakfast was amazing. A fabulous stay with some cycling friends. This is how to run a B&B. Highly recommended!

We’ve already booked another three nights here for April 2026. We stayed two nights in the African room, which was immaculate, tastefully decorated and very spacious, with fantastic views. Breakfast was so delicious and filling that we didn’t eat again until later in the evening. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. We’d definitely recommend a stay.

The flapjacks for the ride home were delicious. We stayed two nights with a cycling group, and the location is great for town. The rooms were great, the hosts really attentive, and breakfast was delicious with plenty of choice, including homemade yoghurt and jams. Just book it!
