Holiday Inn Ashford Central

The staff were helpful, friendly and informative, and I’d definitely visit again if I’m in the area. Free parking is a plus. The rooms were clean and inviting, though a little dated, with no bedside sockets and no fridge. Perhaps a fridge is only included in premium rooms. The bar was quiet but understaffed, and I waited 20 minutes before anyone came to serve me. Breakfast was nice, though the restaurant has a very odd layout, as if it was an afterthought.

The rooms have been refreshed in the last few years, and the check-in team took great care to find my elderly mother a room much closer to the entrance and dining area. The service from the team was good. But the worn carpet, damaged paint and walls, and horribly overgrown gardens let the hotel down badly. It seems simple problems either aren’t reported by the cleaning staff or aren’t fixed by maintenance. The management needs to pay much more attention to looking after the whole site.

I’m here on business, and the location is great. Reception remembered me from a tip there three months ago and welcomed me back, a nice touch. The rooms are clean and tidy, and the bar and breakfast room have character. Breakfast is good quality, with cooked buffet options. They put out small amounts and replenish regularly, which helps keep the food fresh. The breakfast staff are always helpful, showing you to a seat and offering tea and coffee. The hallways could do with a touch of paint, but it’s a great place to stay with good corporate rates. I’ll keep using it when I’m in Ashford.

We had dinner in the restaurant and breakfast too, and both were lovely. The rooms were surprisingly spacious and airy, and despite the nearby road, very quiet. Comfortable beds, friendly staff and great service. A lovely hotel.
