Finding somewhere my husband feels at ease eating out means a lot to me. Sally took wonderful care of us, and we were given a quiet table in the restaurant because he worries about eating out due to his Parkinson's. We had a lovely afternoon. I enjoyed a really good burger, while his curry was homemade and he liked it so much he ate the whole meal at his own pace. Nobody rushed us. There's also a lovely snug lounge now where you can sit and enjoy a quiet drink. Highly recommend the food, care and atmosphere.

I only went in for a meal and can't comment on the rooms, as I didn't stay. The jacket potato I ordered was still frozen, and I managed just a couple of forkfuls. Not long afterwards I felt unwell. I didn't mention it at the time because I already felt unwelcome. The staff paid little attention to me and seemed more focused on the pub regulars. I won't go back, and I wouldn't recommend it.

The room was spacious, with a distinctive four poster bed, and the price was very good for what I got. I liked the cool, rustic feel of the place, and the stay fit my budget and ticked all the boxes. Paul greeted me promptly at the bar, was polite and attentive, helped with parking and went above and beyond to accommodate my needs. He was professional and made me feel welcome. Breakfast came quickly and was fresh; I chose the vegetarian option and enjoyed it. One heads-up, the toilet has a blender attached to it, lol.

The building's old character is on full display, with uneven floors and walls and the original wonky woodwork exposed. Staff were friendly and helpful. My room had the basic things I needed for a stopover, and food and drinks were very reasonably priced. They serve food daily and seem to have a Sunday carvery too. The simple full English breakfast was amazing, made with top quality ingredients.

I go to the Griffin fairly regularly because the food is so good. It's always fresh, nicely presented, tasty and well cooked. I can highly recommend it.
