Bel The Dragon At Red Lion Wendover

The pub is so pretty, and I love bringing my dogs because they're always welcomed and well loved. We're always looked after by the friendly, welcoming staff, and the service and food are exceptional. Big shout out to Dom, Gemma, Kyla, Macie, Millie, Aga, Fin and Ellie!

The food was good with a varied menu, and the bar and dining room were comfortable. All the staff were very friendly. But we paid for a superior twin and were taken to a double. While we had a complimentary drink at the bar, they moved the beds to make it a twin. The room was cold: the main radiator didn't work, and neither did the electric plug-in radiator beside it. The bedside light switch was hidden behind the headboard, and when I tried it, it fell inside the back of the bedside table. The bath water was only lukewarm, so we washed using water boiled in the kettle. There wasn't a spoon for tea or coffee. Definitely not a superior room. The Bel and the Dragon is fine for a meal or drink, but not an overnight stay. Disappointing.

The location was nice and the food was good, but the restaurant manager was rude and brash. After our group of seven spent nearly £1000 on dinner and drinks, he told us to be quiet, even though there was no swearing, just laughter and good-natured fun. I'm 66, and our average age was 55. We'd also spent another £1000 on accommodation. At 11.15pm, we were told to leave the bar and take our drinks to our rooms, though we'd bought them after last orders had been called at 10.50pm. The room, breakfast, and evening meal were all great. Still, the manager let the experience down.

Dinner on the last evening of my business trip was perfect. Jemma and Macie gave faultless service, and the meal was exceptional. My stay has been brilliant, and I'd highly recommend Bel & The Dragon to anyone thinking of staying. Thank you.
