The food downstairs was superb. We loved the stone baked pizzas, breads and oils, pâté, homemade chunky chips, children’s meals and wine. The staff were all lovely and helpful, and we're already looking forward to coming back. We spent two nights in the H Suite at the Boutique, which was a treat: a huge space, enormous bed, dressing area and beautiful bath. The central location was great, and parking worked out fine once we'd figured out the car parks. We could hear noise from the cheese/wine bar below, though it stopped at a reasonable time. Please update the website with the latest prices.

We slept better here than in a Hilton, and the bed was unbelievably comfy. The room was spacious and just right, and the hotel is in a perfect spot near the river and main shops. Staff were amazing: the receptionist was lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. They even helped arrange a birthday surprise for my husband with balloons, cakes and chocolates. Walking in to find the balloons and a happy birthday banner was such a lovely surprise. We'd recommend the hotel and will definitely be back!

We only stayed two nights, mainly to visit Chatsworth House, but we'll be back next year to see more of the Peak District. We love the location in Bakewell. We've tried a few boutique hotels over the past few years, and the 'H' is easily our favourite. David, the hotel manager, deserves a special mention for his useful local knowledge and endless entertaining stories. The staff were helpful, and our room was spotless with no signs of wear. There were thoughtful extras, including a tray for boots and shoes by the door and complimentary slippers, a rare touch for a smaller hotel. Breakfast costs extra, which some reviews dislike, but booking was easy, the choice was very good and residents get a discount. Dinner in the restaurant was easy to book too, with decent food at a good price.

The breakfast in the attached coffee shop was very nice. Hotel guests get 10% off, and the generous full English with a drink was £15 each. I'd recommend both the café and hotel. The rooms were lovely, with a very comfortable bed and a nice bathroom stocked with White Company toiletries. I gave the room four stars because I expected a Nespresso or similar coffee machine. Check-in was friendly, but nobody was at reception when we checked out, and the place isn't staffed overnight. There is a number to call if anything comes up, which is why I gave service four stars. Parking is first come, first served in the car park opposite. It was easy for us in low season, but charges were £1 from 6pm to 8am, then daily rates apply. I'd suggest downloading the pay to park app. Parking from 3pm to noon cost £11.
