We booked online at the last minute and had a beautiful Sunday roast. There was a good selection of beer, wine and cider. A 40% off email code gave us a great deal on main meals, and ordering drinks through the table QR code got us 10% off.

We took the campervan for the Christmas market at chatsworth, and it's first come, first served as long as you eat or drink in the pub. The big car park is on the top half, the toilets are open whenever the pub is, and you can have breakfast too. We slept really well with no noise from the pub. The staff were fantastic, and the meal was tasty and well worth the money. It's a half hour walk to Chatsworth. Can't wait to go back.

We ordered the signature ‘Best Ever Pub Pie,’ and it really lived up to its name. It was the most delicious, flavorful, well-made pie I've ever had. The staff were all friendly, attentive and very capable. We were greeted promptly when we arrived and offered drinks. The place itself looks lovely, with a tidy, well-kept interior, warm lighting and tasteful decor that makes it feel welcoming. I'd highly recommend this charming pub and its restaurant.

The food was cold except for the pie and gravy. I had the steak pie and my wife ordered the Sunday roast. Her meat was thin and anaemic, and the few vegetables were shrivelled and cold. It seemed clearly microwaved rather than fresh, and the meal cost £34. When our friendly waitress checked on us 15-20 minutes later, our plates were still half full. We told her we were unhappy and she apologised. The manager then offered either a free dessert or a discount, and we chose the 20% discount. The website had made it sound like a traditional country pub serving home-cooked food, but it felt more like a grotty, dirty canteen. One of our worst dining experiences, and we had a much better meal at another country pub just outside Castleton on the way home. Avoid the Wheatsheaf like the plague. Things went wrong from the start: although we had a reservation, a rude manager put us at a tiny cramped table by the entrance, with barely room for our dog. We were lucky the group next to us left, so we could move to their larger table. Then the manager said we had to leave by 4:15 PM, despite our email confirmation saying 4:30 PM, and we felt rushed with barely time to eat. We also overheard a worrying conversation at the bar, where the manager insisted staff keep serving Pepsi after it had been confirmed flat. The food arrived suspiciously fast.
