Hotel Square

We spent £53 on dinner for two, and left wishing we’d gone elsewhere. I ordered salmon with dauphinoise potatoes, but got oven fries instead. They only told us they’d run out when the food arrived. A heads-up beforehand would have been better. The veg was overcooked, and I couldn’t tell what the sauce was meant to be. There wasn’t much of an apology, and we couldn’t wait to leave. Even the constant fridge noise and the designer salt and pepper pots felt like early warning signs. I hate leaving bad reviews, but don’t want anyone else to waste their money.

My girlfriend was glad to find a vegan option, and we both found the owner and staff extremely nice. We stayed at the hotel and tried both dinner and breakfast. Both meals were enjoyable, affordable, and filling. I personally don’t understand the bad reviews. I can’t say whether anything was different some time ago.

My kid loved the sea bass, and the soup of the day was especially comforting on a chilly evening. There may not be a huge selection, but every dish we tried was spot on. Our dinner came out right on time, and the staff were super friendly. We absolutely loved the quiet, beautiful setting for a cozy family meal. It’s a great choice for a relaxed family night out with a few light drinks.

The hotel and restaurant have recently changed hands, and there’s a lot of work going into the place. We got takeaway last weekend and it was absolutely beautiful, the best food I’ve had in a while. The staff were lovely and really helpful too. Definitely worth trying, and I hope they do well.
