We had breakfast the next morning and it was excellent. The only snag the night before was dinner at Gillies: after 45 minutes nobody had cleared our plates or asked if we wanted dessert, so we got up and went to the pub next door. The pub was excellent too, with a great singer on. Our room was ready early, looked beautiful, and overlooked the river. The whole setting and facilities really impressed us, as did the place from the moment we walked in. It was our first visit, and we’ll definitely return.

Most of the staff were lovely, and the hotel, spa, food and location are amazing. But the service was shocking, especially for the price and a five-star experience. Drinks were forgotten three times, and when they did arrive we’d waited over half an hour. We had a lovely welcome gift in our room, which was a nice touch, but things went downhill from there. At the spa I was told off for bringing my stanely cup. There were no signs saying it wasn’t allowed, and I’d seen plenty of other guests with their own cups over the past couple of days, so I brought mine down too. It made me uncomfortable, and we left to have drinks in our room until dinner. On our last morning we skipped breakfast because we were heading to Belfast to try some foodie spots. We asked for fresh milk as the sign in our room instructed, but none arrived, so we left without tea or coffee. We said good morning to a cleaner on our floor and got a death stare in return. I hate leaving a bad review, but I have to be honest. I arrived buzzing for my honeymoon, and the experience left a lot to be desired. So disappointed 😭😭💔

I’m usually hard to impress, but I’m lost for words. Almost every part of the experience was exceptional. It isn’t cheap, yet it felt like incredible value for money. If you enjoy spa activities, find an off-peak offer and go. You won’t be disappointed.

The room was clean and tidy, and the hotel food was a solid 8/10. But the spa was the best I’ve been to. There are lots of jacuzzis, steam rooms and saunas, and all the pool water is more than warm.
