The building itself is beautiful, old, full of character and very well kept. Our room was clean and tidy, set in a turret with a gorgeous view. Trudy, the owner, was an amazing, friendly and accommodating host, and Mike makes an amazing breakfast. They both made us feel so welcome in their home. We’ll definitely be back.

If you’re into history, you’ll love this place, and Peaky Blinders fans probably will too. The castle sits on a hill above Barmouth beach, with an amazing view. A shotgun manufacturer from Birmingham built it in the 1800s after his car broke down. While they waited for a mechanic, his wife fell in love with the view, so he built her a castle shaped like a shotgun. See the photo.

The room looked nothing like the pictures, and it was run down and tatty. There was mold around the shower dial and damp or mold on the walls above the bed. The windows were filthy too, all obvious at first glance. Everything looked dated and in need of a major refurb. We’d come for a special occasion after a very, very tough year, so this was devastating. We knew within five minutes we couldn’t stay in those conditions and left. Five hours of round trip travel wasted.

The mattress in room 3 was very uncomfortable and needs replacing. Apart from that, we had a lovely stay, the room with a view was spot on, the hospitality was great and breakfast was beautifully cooked.

We had a wonderful murder mystery event and stay at Tyr Graig Castle. The traditional castle is beautiful and full of character, with lovely sea views. The scones were the best we’ve ever had, and nothing was too much trouble. Would thoroughly recommend!
